Amtrak trying to restore Acela service in Northeast
WASHINGTON Amtrak is scrambling to get the Acela Express back on track in the Northeast Corridor. The high-speed trains were taken out of service Friday after Amtrak discovered brake problems in the fleet.
The passenger railway says it will put at least one Acela Express back in service Monday.
An Amtrak spokeswoman says the Acela Express from New York to Washington will operate at eight a-m Eastern time and be turned around to make a two p-m run from Washington to Boston.
She says Amtrak hopes to be able to place a second high-speed train back in service Monday.
Amtrak normally runs 15 Acela weekday roundtrips between New York and Washington and eleven between New York and Boston.
Regular Amtrak trains have been added to pick up the slack.
