Governor agrees to pay fine in ethics probe
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Governor Carcieri has reached an agreement with the state Ethics Commission over complaints he faced for accepting luxury seats at a New England Patriots game and filing a disclosure form late.
The governor will pay a 750-dollar fine to settle the complaints.
He still maintains that the complaint about the Patriots tickets wasn't valid because he was conducting state business while attending the game.
The other complaint said Carcieri filed a financial disclosure form late.
Carcieri had argued that it was unfair to single out the governor when several hundred people also filed late.
All, including the governor, had received reminders to file the forms and the governor complied immediately.
