Bill providing for chemical testing of drivers goes to vote
PROVIDENCE, R.I. The Senate is expected to vote today on subjecting those suspected of driving under the influence to chemical tests. The bill would allow police officers to request a search warrant that would allow them to take blood or urine samples or perform a chemical test.
They would need probable cause that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The bill is sponsored by Senator Joseph Polisena of Johnston.
