Festive protesters press for debt relief
WASHINGTON Several hundred protesters have gathered in Washington outside the site of this weekend's financial meetings. They're calling for greater debt relief for poor nations and speaking out against the selection of Paul Wolfowitz as head of the World Bank.
Police are keeping security tight, using dump trucks and other barricades around the bank's headquarters and International Monetary Fund.
So far, the demonstration has been more festive and less combative than in the past.
At a park near the White House, some chanted, sang, held signs and used giant puppets. Some marched a few blocks to drums and a brass band.
