Rhode Island National Guard head plans retirement
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Major General Reginald Centracchio plans to retire this year from leading the Rhode Island National Guard and may run for lieutenant governor.
Centracchio submitted a letter to the governor this week saying the is planning his retirement.CentracchioÔŅĹs spokesman says the major general hasnÔŅĹt decided yet about a run for public office. The current lieutenant governor, a Democrat, canÔŅĹt run again in 2006 because of term limits.
Centracchio is a Republican like the governor. Centracchio, who is 64, has been in the Army National Guard for 48 years. His spokesman said Centracchio is the first member of the Rhode Island National Guard to rise through the ranks from private to major general.
