Governor announces $1.3 million in literacy grants
PROVIDENCE, R.I. Governor Carcieri announced this week the recipients of more than a (m) million dollars in adult literacy grants. The grants range from about 20-thousand dollars to 100-thousand dollars.
Carcieri says increasing funding for adult literacy programs was one of his goals when he entered office nearly two years ago.
The organizations receiving the money will use the funding for computer literacy classes, G-E-D preparation, citizenship classes and literacy classes.
