Don't eat in the subway, darlin' _ Metro campaigns against eating, drinking
WASHINGTON The arrest of a 12-year-old french fry eater and woman nibbling a candy bar apparently aren't enough to discourage riders from eating or drinking on Washington, D-C's, subway. So the transit system known as Metro is trying something else.
It's launching an advertising campaign that includes four posters that officials hope will convince passengers to take their food and drink elsewhere.
One poster features a large picture of a cockroach, and warns riders that if they eat and drink on the train, they'll "get a lot of new riders." Another poster is a play on the legendary Trident gum commercial. It says "Four out of five dentists recommend gum in your mouth instead of in our trains."
A Metro spokeswoman says many people tend to associate clean and safe.
