Election Board Fraud
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Former state board of elections executive director Robert Fontaine faces criminal charges for obtaining money under false pretenses, the attorney general's office said Thursday. The attorney general said Fontaine faces three counts of obtaining money under false pretenses.
The incidents allegedly occurred between 1996 and 2004. Fontaine, 49, of Cumberland, resigned from his post early last month. He had been suspended with pay since September. State police have been investigating allegations of wrongdoing at the Elections Board and possible misappropriation of funds there.
Fontaine is scheduled to appear in Providence Superior Court next month.
