Fire at power plant in Johnston is out
JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) -- A three-alarm fire at the commercial power plant in Johnston is out.
No one was believed to have been injured.
ThatÔŅĹs according to Johnston Mayor William Macera and the cityÔŅĹs fire chief.
The fire broke out about midmorning at the plant, located at 24 Shun Pike, near the state landfill.
The fire burned in the second and third floors of the building, and caused thick, black smoke to envelop the area.
There no word on the cause. Fire officials believe it started in the plantÔŅĹs air filtration system.
Fire crews from several surrounding towns, including Providence, responded.
