Two Toll Gate assistant coaches fired over injured player episode
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) -- A pair of assistant football coaches at Toll Gate High School have been fired for their involvement in an incident last October when an injured junior-varsity player was allowed onto the playing field.
Schools Superintendent Robert Shapiro says the coaches, Mark Reed and Dennis David, were dismissed for not supervising or safeguarding a student.
Toll Gate head football coach George DeBlois has been suspended while the school investigates.
The sophomore player was injured when he was hit in the head by a weighted field marker and knocked unconscious. The boy wasnt treated, and played, until a physical education teacher took him off the field.
