Groups criticize governor, leaders for ethics vacancies
PROVIDENCE, R.I. Government reform groups are criticizing the governor and legislative leaders from both parties for failing to fill seats on the state Ethics Commission for as long as two years. The executive director of Common Cause there are four commission members with expired terms. The commission has nine members and forces the state ethics laws.
Philip West tells The Providence Journal that the inaction may reflect a lack of commitment to the mission of the Ethics Commission.
A spokeswoman for Governor Carcieri says he plans on making his appointment by the end of this week.
A spokesman for House Democrats say they also are considering nominees to present the governor.
