There are hundreds of complaints across the country against Washington Mutual. . Call for Action investigated further and found similar complaints right here in Rhode island. . You buy your dream home and sign on the dotted line... . Often *trusting* that your payments will be received, credited, and all of your accounts up-to-date

 "Are you scared?"

"Very scared...we have kids, I've been in this house for eight years."

But dozens of Washington Mutual customers across the country were mistaken. . Despite cancelled checks proving payment, the company told them they had fallen behind. ...many returning home to find eviction notices on their doors.

John Palangio, Director, Consumer Affairs, RI Attorney General

  "we've had a series of complaints..." .

The RI Attorney General's office has logged five complaints against Washington Mutual in eighteen months.

Palangio

"Their mortgage payments were not reflected on their balance."

Like other complaints, Rhode Island customers say payments made were *not* properly recorded by the company. . Leaving them with escrow accounts that fell short...and potential credit disasters.

Palangio

"The primary place that people look on a credit report is your mortgage and if that is in error, it sends up a red flag to other businesses that you may want to do business with."

All five Rhode Island complaints have been resolved with Washington Mutual.  The Attorney General's office blames computer glitches and communication break-down for the complaints.

Palangio

"it did not appear to rise to the level of any kind of deceptive trade practice."
