Door to Door Rip offs
They come to your door selling all sorts of products..usually magazines..but how do you know they're legit? One local neighborhood Called for Action to find out if they've been ripped off!
Just when you thought you were safe from the telemarketer here comes the door to door salesman.
Ruth Stone
"Just about a week ago, someone came to our door..."
It's high season for the door to door sales pitch -and this one neighborhood called for action when they recently became suspicious about one guy who came knocking.
Ruth
"He claimed he was canvassing the area to sell magazines."
More like scoping out the neighborhood-
Ruth
"He didn't carry identification."
Didn't come in a car, and didn't come with any professional courtesy.
Ruth
"At the end he got rude when he felt he was losing the sale he turned on the heat he claimed he earned points.. Personally i think it's a scam."
In fact, it probably is ..Call for Action has learned that no business has asked for a door to door license in the city of East Providence all month.
East Providence Police
"Part of the application is to have 2 photo's which turns into photo id's if approved."
ID's that must be worn and shown to residents before the sales pitch can even begin.
Ruth
"He initially gave us brochures then asked for them back."
If you suspect you've been ripped off by a door-to-door salesperson, you should call your local police department to report it.
