Scissors War - Singer vs. Whizzers
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

It's the Does it Work scissors war.   In one corner...Whizzers.  The challenger: Singer's cordless power scissors.  We brought our scissors to Kathy Michaluk, owner of Kathy's House of Seams.

Kathy Michaluk/Kathy's House of Seams                                                                                "I had tried these years ago and didn't care for them. I don't know whether or not they've improved on them since then."

Kathy is eager to give our scissors a try, so let's "cut" to the chase.  First up..the "Whizzers."

Kathy Michaluk                                                                                                                     "This is a lightweight cotton fabric here. No problem."

Two layers at a time, these Whizzers make cutting a breeze.  From cotton, to denim, silk, even lycra!!

Kathy Michaluk                                                                                                                       "That's lycra which is a difficult fabric to cut sometimes with scissors. It seems to cut through pretty much anything."

Next up...Singer's cordless power scissors. Cotton is no match for these blades, but silk isn't so smooth.

Kathy Michaluk                                                                                                                         "I had a lot of difficulty getting the fabric into the blades on this one."

And it wasn't just the silk.  Lightweight denim,  even heavy denim Kathy had a hard time getting these scissors started in the fabric.  In the wool and lycra these scissors are cut short.

Kathy Michaluk                                                                                                                       "Nope - these just don't want to cut. They just keep chewing it up.  I think the others are much better than the Singer's."

In fact, Kathy loved the Whizzers so much she gives them an 11 out of 12.  The Singer's hardly did what the advertisement claimed they would do, they did eventually cut the fabrics, but certainly not with ease. They get a three out of twelve.
