PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A former New York City police officer was sentenced Friday to five years in federal prison for conspiring to buy a kilogram of cocaine in Rhode Island.

Prosecutors said Jose Gabriel Delvalle, 24, was carrying his police credentials and service pistol when he was arrested in October in Warwick while arranging to buy the drugs. He was with

Basilio Aquiles Delvalle, 34, also of New York, who was sentenced to 46 months.

The two men pleaded guilty in December to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a kilogram or more of cocaine.

The men had agreed to pay $18,500 for the kilogram, and had said they might buy an additional nine kilograms in the future, prosecutors said.
