Crimes, complaints involving Muslims up sharply
NEWARK, N.J. A new study finds the number of reported bias crimes and civil rights violations against Muslims in the U-S is approaching post-Nine-Eleven levels. The Council on American-Islamic Relations blames lingering animosity and a growing use of anti-Muslim rhetoric by some political, religious and media figures.
In 2004, the council counted more than 15-hundred incidents in which Muslims reported their civil rights had been violated. That's a 49 percent increase over 2003.
