Public Transit Battle
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The chairman of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority board says he opposes cutting state transit service. State Senator Daniel Connors says he will vote against service cuts when the board meets Monday.
Board members are expected to meet Monday at noon, but the governor has urged them to postpone voting on service cuts until his office can look over the budget. Transit officials have said they must cut bus service to close an estimated one-point-nine million dollar budget deficit.
