Rhode Island recognized for troops voting effort

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Rhode Island's efforts to ensure its troops can vote are winning praise.

Secretary of State Matt Brown's troops voting project was recognized as a "best practice" by the Federal Voting Assistance Project.

The Federal Voting Assistance Project is responsible for making sure military personnel and their families as well as nonmilitary citizens overseas know how to register and vote.

As part of the Rhode Island effort, Brown simplified the registration and absentee ballot process, and will send e-mails to Rhode Island troops in the middle of this month about how they can vote this fall.

He is also setting up a Web site about voting for Rhode Island troops.
