Analyst: Gas prices jump along with record-high crude oil prices
LOS ANGELES An industry analyst says gas prices have climbed nearly eight cents a gallon in the past two weeks. The reason: record-high crude oil prices. Trilby Lundberg says from September 24th through Friday, the combined national average for all grades of gas rose to two dollars, two cents a gallon.
Prices are likely to climb in the short-term with rising crude oil prices, which hit more than 53 dollars per barrel on Friday. But Lundberg says prices may come down as hurricane-damaged petroleum facilities in the Gulf of Mexico are repaired.
The most expensive gas was sold in San Diego. The cheapest was in Houston.
Lundberg surveyed seven-thousand gas stations across the country.
