URI expects to boost student fees for Ryan Center
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. The University of Rhode Island expects to raise student fees to cover a revenue shortfall at the Ryan Center. The proposed $80 fee increase for the next academic year would boost the fee to $256.
The school said overly optimistic financial targets and disappointing turnout for some events contributed to the shortfall.
School administrators said they would lower expectation next year.
They are also trying to attract more big names to the sports arena to supplement revenue.
The center plays host to the men's and women's basketball teams and has held rock concerts and other events.
