Congressman criticized for using Mexican president's image

Denver-AP -- A congressman is drawing criticism for using a picture of the Mexican president in his effort to crack down on foreign-issued I-D cards.

Colorado Republican Tom Tancredo used the picture on a poster. He was announcing introduction of a bill to restrict the use of Mexico's consular I-D card. Tancredo is an outspoken supporter of stricter immigration enforcement.

His poster is a mock-up of the card, showing a photo of Mexican President Vicente (vih-SEN'-tay) Fox. The card says "unknown" on the line asking for parents' citizenship.

A spokesman for the Mexican Embassy says using Fox's picture is disrespectful. Texas Congressman Ruben Hinojosa (hee-noh HOH'-sah) says the poster is "anti-Hispanic."

Tancredo's spokesman says nobody ever complained before.
