Man gets death sentence for killing fourth wife
Delaware, Ohio-AP -- A man has been sentenced to death for murdering his fourth wife and a friend who prosecutors say helped him kill two earlier wives. The Ohio judge followed the recommendation of the jury, which could have recommended life without parole for 54-year-old Gerald Hand.
Hand was convicted Friday of killing his wife, Jill, and friend Walter Welch last year at the couple's home.
Hand says he shot Welch in self-defense because he thought Welch was an intruder who had shot his wife.
Prosecutors also suspect Hand in the deaths of his first two wives, but he hasn't been charged. He denies wrongdoing.
His third marriage ended in divorce.
