New Information on Fatal Accident
The owner of a tractor-trailer that dropped a steel bolt which killed a Lincoln man has been cited for motor vehicle violations. According to reports, the State Police cited the Spencer, White and Prentis Corporation for improper load securement and exceeding the maximum allowable height.
Police believe that when the truck hit an overpass as it tried to enter Interstate 95 northbound near Route 10, a bolt fell from it. The bolt went through the windshield of Charles D. Jannarelli's pickup truck and struck Jannarelli in the head.
The bolt weighed an estimated 40 to 50 pounds. It had been attached to a piece of drilling equipment carried on the flatbed trailer.
Police said 68-year-old Jannarelli was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital yesterday afternoon following the accident on Interstate 85.
