Possible new cases could land Canada back on WHO list of SARS-affected areas
Toronto-AP -- Canadian officials have announced a new cluster of about 20 possible SARS cases in Toronto. The alert comes as a harsh blow for Canada's largest city. Toronto was removed from the World Health Organization's list of SARS-affected areas last week after apparently snuffing out the biggest outbreak of the illness outside of Asia.
Ontario and Toronto health officials say there was an apparently undiagnosed SARS case at North York Hospital. That person may have infected health care workers, other patients and their family members in one ward in late April.
The news from Canada comes the same day that U-S health officials reinstated a travel alert for Toronto.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cited possible new cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome in renewing the alert. It warns Americans to take precautions when traveling to a particular area. It stops short of the next step of advising against the trip.
