More than 60 vehicles involved in interstate pileups near Devore, California
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Devore, California-AP -- First, it was one car, followed by more, followed by some big-rigs.

More than 60 vehicles were caught up in a series of chain-reaction crashes this morning on a foggy Interstate 15 in southern California. Some of them exploded in flames, while several big trucks jackknifed.

A fire spokeswoman says there were at least four accidents along a two-mile stretch along Cajon (kuh-HOHN') Pass. She says about two dozen people were hurt -- and says "it's a miracle" there weren't major injuries.

One witness told a T-V station (K-C-A-L) that "everybody was slamming into everybody."

The California Highway Patrol says dense fog may have played a role in the crashes. The highway's northbound lanes were closed for several hours while the road was cleaned up.
