Tanker crash sends at least one person to the hospital

(North Smithfield-AP) -- A small tanker truck is on its wheels again after rolling over in a crash this afternoon.

North Smithfield police say that at least one person sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of a sports utility vehicle involved in the accident was reportedly taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police received a call about the rollover in the 13-hundred block of Douglas Pike around 2:20 p-m. The road has been closed and traffic is being diverted.  Shortly after 5pm the road was reopened, the investigation into the crash continues.

The Department of Environmental Management says the truck was carrying about 200 gallons of fuel. It spilled only six to eight gallons in the accident, making for what they say was an easy clean up.
