Travel Agent Takes Off
Cassidy and Oliveira Travel Agency had a good repuation with the locals. In fact, it had a lot of repeat business. But now, many of those loyal customers feel betrayed so they Called for Action. It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime ...an Alaskan Cruise with the entire family.
Lorrie Kenney, North Attleboro
"This is the second trip we booked with them.."
Cousins Lorrie and Pauline were planning the trip to celebrate Pauline's 40th Wedding Anniversary. They each paid 39-hundred dollars to Cassidy and Oliveira Travel Agency in Fall River. But they say their cruise plans began to sink when the travel agency took their money but never booked the trip with the cruise line.
Lorri
"I called them and they said oh, no, we don't have a reservation for you, and I said, I'm sure you do..I have a confirmation number!
In fact, Call for Action learned that the cruise line cancelled the trip because the travel agency never paid them.
Pauline Rodriques, Somerset
"We were just a tad disappointed.."
But the disappointment quickly turned to anger. Pauline and Lorrie realize now that they should have been suspicious that things weren't quite right from the beginning when they booked their trip with the travel agency.
Pauline
"He couldn't take a credit card but he needed to be paid right away."
Call for Action has tried to contact the owner of this travel agency, Jack Cassidy, but we're told he isn't around...we've learned he's in Vegas. Pauline and Lorrie confronted cassidy about getting a refund, he did cut a check to Lorrie...but as far as Pauline's 39-hundred dollars?
Pauline
"Oh, it's in the mail."
Pauline isn't holding her breath.
Pauline
"I hope the man is honest and just a poor businessman, and we will get our money. ..but do I believe that? probably not."
Call for Action spoke to a few friends of Jack Cassidy's. They have been in contact with him and believe he's just going through a very difficult time right now. He told them he will be back by this Saturday and plans to refund everyone's money. But, Cassidy's problems aren't recent. According to the Massachusetts Attorney Generals Office, they have received more than 19 complaints against this travel agency in the past 2 years and the complaints lately are pouring in.
