Do Not Call Me! Really!
Call for Action uncovers a company that may be trying to take advantage of you. It's free to sign up for the do not call list. But beware of a company that claims to put you on that list...for a price. It happened to a Coventry woman, so she called for action.
Many of us are sick and tired of telemarketers, no one more fed up now than June Neilsen. Just yesterday, she got a call from the National Phone Protection Group claiming to be anti-telemarketers. According to June the salesperson bullied her into giving him her checking account number. So what are they selling? A service you could get for free. Your name on the do not call list, also something called prepaid legal care, which is nothing more than a name of an attorney, oh, one more thing, you get the "Phone Butler". It's a device you hook up to your phone, it doesn't stop a telemarketer from calling you, it's simply a recording telling them not to call back...gee thanks.
June Neilsen, Coventry
He said it's $299! Please, I said, cancel it! He said, 'I';m not going to!'
Now, out $299, June Called for Action.

June
How did you do it Sue?
Call for Action contacted the company and they apologized for the salesperson's rude behavior and took off the charge.
June
Thank God for Susan Hogan! I love Channel 12!
Call for Action alerted the RI Attorney Generals Office of Consumer Protection about this company..a company claiming to be anti-telemarketers is nothing more than telemarketers themselves.
