Special Report Video

Kids call it a water yo-yo, bungee water ball, or gel ball..we call it deadly. Call for Action received several calls from concerned parents about these toys. Most concerned over the possibility of strangulation, but Call for Action uncovered another frightening hazard at your kids fingertips.

One spark, one second, is all it takes to set this child's toy on fire!

Anne Angilly, Warwick Consumer

"When we first got them I thought they would be fun!"

 Anne was dead wrong.

Anne

"But then I smelled it..it smelled like a strong kerosene smell."

But she was sure right about that.

Anne

"I was concerned because I know things take time so I decided to call you! "

Call for Action immediately took the toy to ESS Laboratories in Warwick--where a fire test proved negative results. But that was with this Water Yo Yo by Imperial toys.  But look-a-like toys like this one are sold in clear plastic wrap; unnamed, with no labels. And watch what happens when it's exposed to a flame ... In a matter of seconds this water ball is a fire ball.

Anne

"The more I looked at it, I became concerned, there's no labeling, no age warnings..nothing about age. .."

The fire hazard is a concern, but that's not all.   9 year old Makayla Bora from Pawtucket nearly choked to death after the yo yo wrapped around her neck..causing severe ruptures in her blood vessels..today she's healed, but her mother is on a crusade to get these toys out of the hands of children.

Call for Action contacted the Consumer Product Safety Commission and they have launched an immediate investigation into all of these bungee type yo-yo's because of the strangulation hazard. . But what they were not aware of was the flammability of these toys...that is until Call for Action's investigation, . We were asked to file an incident report immediately.
