Charity Warning!
We've all received the phone calls from charities, asking for a donation. While most are legitimate, a warning tonight about some that are anything but.
"They said they were the American Veterans Network"
Terry Roddick is a veteran. He and his wife often donate to veteran's organizations. So his wife could not refuse a recent solicitation.
"It was a very high-pressure tactic." But Terry says this call was different.
"He said you can't afford 10 dollars to help veterans buy prosthetics!?" With that 'GUILT' trip, The Roddicks agreed to make a small donation, but then things only got worse. "They started calling.." Roddick says nearly every night for more than a week, they called, looking for his wife and demanding payment. That's when Terry took a closer look at this charity. What he found was that the organization was actually run by the Shiloh Ministry.
"I called the veterans group locally and they don't know why they are and they said that the group doesn't collect for them"
Terry immediately searched the web, looking for answers, anything about the "Shiloh Ministry". " I found a lot of information and it's all bad." Call for Action also found that the Shiloh Ministry is an organization of five men based in California. They hire fundraising companies to collect money for them. And we also learned that the Shalloh Ministry gets a little "greedy" when it comes to divvying up the doe. "The fundraising organization, they keep 80%, send 20% to the Shiloh Ministry, out of that, 1-2% actually goes to the charity.
