Cianci Web site buyer not sure about his purchase

CRANSTON, R.I. The rights to the Web site bearing the name of former Providence Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci has been sold.

But the Cranston man who bought it off of an online auction site has no idea what to do with it.

VincentCianci.com fetched 540 dollars. It was being auctioned on e-bay by Newport resident John Ackerman, who said he decided to sell the domain because he thought Cianci's name recognition was fading.

The new owner, Vincent Mascaro, says he isn't a big fan of the former mayor, who is now serving time in federal prison. He says it's just what happens when you have nothing to do at two in the morning.

Mascaro says he'd like to give the site back or sell it.

Cianci was Providence's longest-serving mayor. Now he's serving a five-year, four-month sentence in federal prison after being convicted of a single count of racketeering conspiracy in 2002.
