Security ratcheted up in Los Angeles as terror precaution
LOS ANGELES There's no credible information requiring it. However, security measures have been increased in downtown Los Angeles and Century City -- where a number of West Coast financial institutions are headquartered. Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn told reporters, "We are going to continue to remain on a heightened state of vigilance."
Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton says it's appropriate to "err on the side of caution" by using available resources and procedures.
Today's announcement comes ahead of this week's planned anti-terrorism exercises across the country dubbed Operation "Determined Promise."
The California exercise is called Operation "Golden Guardian." It includes a simulated radiological attack in Southern California and a terrorist hijacking in the north.
