Food pyramid is changing
WASHINGTON The food pyramaid is getting a makeover. The Agriculture Department is redesigning the triangle-shaped guide that advises how many servings of different food groups people should eat every day. The new symbol is set to be released today.
Officials hope this will help persuade Americans to eat better.
The makeover includes using cups, ounces and other household measures to tell people how much to eat, rather than the current advice which uses number of servings.
The guidelines include eating two cups of fruit and two and a-half cups of vegetables a day.
Still, experts say they don't expect the change to spark an immediate reversal of habits. The Agriculture Department official overseeing the makeover says: "We didn't get to be obese overnight. We're not going to reverse it overnight."
