Two Texas inmates set to die on same night
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

HUNTSVILLE, Texas Wednesday's set to be a busy night in Texas's death chamber, with two inmates set to die on the same night.

Forty-two-year-old Douglas Roberts faces lethal injection for the abduction and fatal stabbing of a man in 1996. Twenty-six-year-old Milton Mathis is scheduled to follow him to the death chamber for fatally shooting two men and seriously wounding a 15-year-old girl in 1998.

The double execution is unusual but not unprecedented for Texas. Most recently, two prisoners were executed on August ninth, 2000. Two executions on the same day also were carried out in 1995 and 1997.

Texas has put to death 340 prisoners since 1982, when the state resumed carrying out the death penalty after the U-S Supreme Court lifted its ban.
