Rhode Island detective was killed with his own weapon
PROVIDENCE, R.I. A Rhode Island police detective has been killed while questioning a suspect. The Providence police chief says the veteran detective was shot with his own weapon.
The chief says detective James Allen was questioning a suspect in a stabbing when the man grabbed the detective's gun and shot him. The chief says the suspect broke a window and jumped out onto the service road that borders the building.
The chief says the man was apprehended a few blocks away after a struggle. He was taken to a hospital with injuries to his leg, arm and head, and was later released into police custody.
The chief says an investigation is under way.
