Ice still not thick enough on at state parks
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- State officials are warning people not to go out on frozen lakes just yet.

The officials report the ice is NOT thick enough to support recreational activities, such as skating or ice fishing, despite the recent cold weather. The ice needs to have a uniform thickness of at least six inches before it can be declared safe. It generally takes five to seven consecutive days of temperatures in the low 20s to create enough ice thickness on lakes or ponds.

More information can be obtained from the state Department of Environmental ManagementÔŅĹs ice hotline at 222-2632.
