Providence man pleads guilty to gun possession charge
PROVIDENCE, R.I. A 23-year-old Providence man has pleaded guilty to be a felon possession of a firearm. Dara Veng admitted yesterday in U.S. District Court that he had a loaded handgun in the basement of his residence when police searched it in November 2003.
The maximum penalty he faces is ten years in federal prison and a 250,000 dollar fine.
Veng is detained pending sentencing, which is set for April Eighth. He has previous convictions for drug trafficking, breaking and entering and possessing a stolen motor vehicle.
He has also been linked to a November 2003 shooting in which 22 rounds were fired into the District Eight police substation on Providence's Camp Street.
