Blair: I welcome probe of intelligence on Iraq
Wednesday,June4,2003,8:03 AM
London-AP -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair says he welcomes an investigation into the intelligence he used to justify war in Iraq. Blair says the Parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee contacted the government early last month to conduct the inquiry.
Blair says a B-B-C report claiming an intelligence dossier was doctored to play up Iraq's weapons capabilities is "completely and utterly untrue." The report included a claim that Iraq could deploy weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes.
A senior member of Blair's Cabinet says "rogue" elements within the intelligence services were responsible for the B-B-C report.
The probe by parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee is separate from the investigation announced yesterday by the influential House of Commons Foreign Relations Committee.
