Baby Dies After Being Found In Homemade Fish Pond
(Exeter-AP) -- A 14-month-old Exeter girl apparently drowned Monday in a goldfish pond in her backyard.
State police officials say the girl apparently pushed open the storm door in her home on Widow Sweets Road.
Major John Leyden Junior says the girl was missing for about 20 minutes until her mother found her in the two-foot-deep pond.
The mother called rescue workers around four p-m to report her daughter was not breathing.
The child was pronounced dead at Kent County Hospital about an hour later.
State Police are investigating the death. But Leyden says the death appears to be an accident.
