Indian Smoke Shop Postponed
(Charlestown-AP) -- The Narragansett Indian tribe has decided to postpone its opening of a tax-free smoke shop in South County.
Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas says the delay came after Governor Carcieri asked for it. Thomas and Carcieri will meet Tuesday to discuss the issue.
The chief says he must do what he can to help the tribe's 26-hundred members.
He says the tobacco shop in Charlestown is important because it helps the tribe be self-sufficient.
