Holiday weekend travel again looks to be a record
Washington-AP -- Americans apparently aren't letting terrorism, SARS or anything else keep them from going where they want to go this Memorial Day weekend. Justin McNaull of Triple-A says they'll again hit the road in record numbers for the long holiday weekend that marks the traditional start of summer.
He says the travel services company expects even a few more travelers than last year, when 35 (m) million Americans were on the go -- the biggest number in at least ten years. McNaull says about 30 (m) million will travel by car this year, nearly four (m) million will fly and about one and a-half (m) million will use train, bus or boat.
And he says there's good news for highway travelers -- gas prices average about a dollar-50 a gallon now. That's down more than 20 cents from record highs just two months ago.
