(Washington-AP, Mar. 24, 2005 12:55 PM) _ A Minnesota company is recalling frozen sugar cookie dough after discovering that the product contains unlabeled egg ingredients, which poses a risk of severe reactions in people allergic to eggs.

Best Brands Corp. of Eagan, Minn., said Thursday that consumers may have purchased the Custom Sugar Precut Frozen Cookie Dough as baked goods at bakeries or in individual packages with grocery store labels. The cookies came in various shapes and sizes, both decorated and plain.

A broker notified Best Brands on Monday that a consumer allergic to eggs allegedly had a reaction after eating one of the cookies, said Bob Bianca, vice president of research and development. A formula review revealed the egg ingredient, he said.

The product was distributed to retail bakeries, grocery store bakeries and other foodservice outlets in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Consumers with egg allergies should not eat the cookies and return them to the place of purchase to check if they are part of the recall, said the company, which is cooperating with the Food and Drug Administration on the recall and plans to redistribute the product with correct labels.
