Steve Aveson
Steve Aveson joined the Eyewitness News team in the middle of the Operation Plunderdome Trial in June of 2002. He co-anchors the 6 and 11 pm newscast with Karen Adams on WPRI 12/CBS and the 10pm newscast on WNAC/FOX Providence.
Before joining Eyewitness News Steve was main anchor for FOX25 in Boston where he earned a 2002 Emmy award.
In New York Steve spent 4 years working for ABC news where he was a correspondent for Good Morning America and 20/20. He also served as anchor for several ABC NEWS programs including, World News This Morning, Good Morning America Sunday and ABC�s Emmy award winning Discovery News.
Aveson has deep ties to New England. He began his career as contributing host for Evening/PM Magazine at WBZ TV in Boston where his New England Portrait series introduced him to distinguished characters from Portland to Pawtucket. Stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things brought him awards and recognition from the National Commission on Working Women, Associate Press, Gabriel Awards and the National Education Film and Video Festival and the Iris Awards.
Work for the Christian Science Monitor, American Journal, ABC has taken Steve across the country and around the world. From the Columbine Shootings in Colorado to coverage of "new journalism" in Moscow following the Soviet Coup Aveson has demonstrated a keen interest and ability to cover diverse topics. Highlights include the Gypsy Cave Dwellers of Guadix and live anchoring the shuttle launch that carried John Glenn back into space.
Aveson is a graduate of Wheelock College and has a degree psychology. He grew up in San Francisco and is married with two young daughters.
