Vote on Bolton U-N nomination postponed as Republican support crumbles
CAPITOL HILL The White House continues to back its choice to be the nation's representative at the U-N even as Republican support for John Bolton may be crumbling. Yesterday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee postponed its vote on Bolton after a few Republicans joined Democrats in asking for the delay.
They want to take a fresh look into allegations that Bolton abused his authority and mistreated subordinates. A Dallas woman has alleged Bolton chased her through a hotel and threw things at her at an international conference a decade ago.
President Bush's spokesman says the allegations are unfounded and adds Bolton is "exactly the person we need at the United Nations at this time."
No new date has been set for a vote.
