N-F-L faces questions about steroids
CAPITOL HILL The congressional panel that investigated steroid use in baseball now wants to question officials with the National Football League. The House Government Reform Committee has scheduled a hearing April 27th.
Chairman Tom Davis says a public review of the N-F-L's steroid strategy is the next step in the investigation.
The committee has asked for and received a response from the league about the number of drug tests performed each year, the number of positive results and which substances are tested for.
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue (TAG'-lee-uh-boo) and Gene Upshaw with the N-F-L Players Association are among those invited to testify.
The committee held an eleven-hour hearing on steroids in baseball last month. Among the witnesses were former players Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco and baseball commissioner Bud Selig (SEE'-lihg).
