Incoming, outgoing Providence bishops welcome new pope
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Retiring Bishop Robert Mulvee says the Providence diocese is celebrating the election of a new pope along with Catholics from around the world.
Mulvee says he prays that the new pope can united the entire church.
The incoming bishop is Thomas Tobin of Ohio. He also welcomed the naming of Pope Benedict the 16th.
Tobin says itÔŅĹs clear the College of Cardinals has chosen wisely.
Tobin pledged loyalty, respect and love to the new pontiff.
