Senator Chafee Supporting UN Ambassador Nomination
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senator Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island says he'll vote to confirm President Bush's nomination for U-S ambassador to the United Nations. Chafee told The Associated Press that the circumstances surrounding the nomination were regrettable, but said he'd reluctantly support John Bolton.
Chafee had been considered a possible pivotal vote -- and if he had opposed Bolton, it could have stopped his chances to head to the U-N. Democrats have strongly opposed the nomination, saying Bolton has been a harsh critic of the United Nations and was unsuited to be the nation's chief diplomat there.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is now preparing to vote on the nomination.
