A Marine spokesman says such teams typically have 50 Marines. Besides being specialists in providing security, they're experts in conducting raids in urban areas.
The Jiddah consulate was attacked yesterday, leaving nine people dead: four attackers and five non-American embassy workers. Some workers say the attackers used them as shields.
Six Marines were assigned to the consulate, but the spokesman believes only four were inside during the attack. It's not known if they took part in the gun battle. The attackers got inside the consulate walls, but not into the building.
The State Department says more attacks are possible in Saudi Arabia. New travel warnings are planned.
