September Eleventh Fund to hold final meeting tomorrow
WASHINGTON One chapter in the September Eleventh story is closing. A large Nine-Eleven charity backed by film and music stars is shutting down tomorrow, saying its work is mostly finished. The September Eleventh Fund has collected 534 (m) million dollars and has paid out all but ten (m) million dollars of it.
Much of the money came from a one-night television fundraiser just days after the attacks that included appearances by Bruce Springsteen, George Clooney and Tom Hanks.
Fund officials say more than half the money went directly to victims, though at least one grieving father says most families got about 20-thousand dollars and should've received more.
