Man shot in the back in Providence
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

A man was shot in the back in Rhode IslandÔŅĹs capital city. Now he's in the hospital and police are hoping to get more information from him about what happened.

Police say there's not much to go on this morning, but we know a young man, around 19 or 20 years old, was shot at several times while he was driving his car in Providence late last night. This all happened several blocks from a popular Providence nightclub.

It was right around 1:30 in the morning. Club Mambo was just letting out when a man in a Nissan Maxima drove up in front of the Providence Sunday night hot spot. An eyewitness didn't want his identity revealed, he says the man appeared very calm despite the fact his windows were blown out and the car was riddled with bullet holes. According to police, the man was shot once in the lower back. He was taken away by ambulance to Rhode Island hospital where he is now recovering.

Police say the victim was apparently driving up near Thurbers Avenue when he was shot at from behind. Police noticed the man and his damaged car when he drove down in front of the club on Broad Street. So far Providence detectives say they have no leads- the victim telling police he didn't see who shot him.

Police say the victim's wound is non-life threatening. Their plans are to interview him later this morning and see if he can provide any more information about his shooter.
